Notes: Prompt was "Innocence". Takes place in Twilight on a night when Edward is in Bella's room and she first says she loves him.

Was this my punishment for being in love with such a powerless human?

Forced to watch my presence corrupt her every waking moment, staining her most perfect of souls with the monster I held, barely concealed, within me.

"Edward..." she murmured in her sleep, her perfect face portraying the little innocence her character still had left. "Edward, I love you..."

So quickly it was swept away in those three unconsciously spoken words. The innocence was gone. I corrupted her dreams now, too.

Was this my punishment for being so in love with such a powerless human... or was it hers?
